Full Time (30 hours per week)

$46,270 ($29.66 per hour)

The ABC and ABC’s Bar are major hospitality venues in Christchurch with capacities of 250 people each.

We are seeking five dynamic restaurant managers to take our establishments to a new level. We have a traditional New Zealand restaurant on one level and a Thai restaurant on the other. Fluency in an Asian language would be beneficial as our customer base grows as tourism recovers from recent years. Barista and cocktails (mixologist) experience would be highly valued. English fluency is also a requirement. The successful candidates will have a minimum of six months experience, preferably more, in hospitality and tertiary qualifications in hospitality, although other qualifications will be considered. A key responsibility of this position is to train staff to a high level of professionalism. The bulk of this staff will be young, probably fresh from school or further education and will need to be trained to give excellent service to a diverse cultural background, local and international.

This is an excellent opportunity for five individuals to create memorable experiences for customers and lead teams from varied and diverse backgrounds. The five new appointees will work together to share the workload of two, seven days a week, establishments, that open as early as 7am and stay open to 3am the following morning. These bars have been in operation since the mid 1990’s and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu for snacks always available. There are two kitchens with qualified and experienced chefs whose food is highly rated.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the restaurant efficiently.
- Ensure the existing high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.
- Implement high standards of safety and ensure that all safe practices are followed.
- Recruit and retain staff and allow the staff to grow and learn as they work.
- Roster staff to ensure peaks in customer demand are anticipated and catered for.
- Order and rotate stock to ensure minimal wastage.
- Organise staff meetings to cover issues as required.
- Listen to customer feedback and ensure that action is taken to always enhance customers’ experience.
- Ensure that all customers receive excellent customer service.

Requirements:

- Need to work flexible hours between 7 am and 3 am the following morning, including weekends and public holidays. The ABC at present is open 138 hours per week (seven days) and ABC’s is presently open six days a week, approximately 44 hours per week but part of the task of the new restaurant managers are to expand the hours at ABC’s dramatically, possibly to match the hours of The ABC (up to 138 hours per week).
- Have the required knowledge to analyse trends, financial projections, and budgets.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Able to solve problems as they occur.
- Work with the company directors to always ensure that they know what the big picture is.

The ABC is an accredited employer, and we welcome applications from overseas, but priority will be given first to suitable applicants who are presently resident of New Zealand.

Please provide a CV and proof of your status in New Zealand.
