Pay rate is based on NZ Certificates in Health and Wellbeing or a recognised equivalent qualification with a clear salary progression as you learn:

No relevant qualification $23.15

NZCHW Level 2 or equivalent $24.06

NZCHW Level 3 or equivalent $26.16

NZCHW Level 4 or equivalent $28.25

Minimum of 65 guaranteed hours per fortnight. Overtime is available too. There is also opportunity to perform up to 6 sleepover shifts of up to 10 hours' duration per fortnight (paid at prevailing minimum wage).

As a Support Worker you will be supporting people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy great lives at home and as part of their community. This is meaningful work where you can be creative and make every day interesting in ways that are important to others. You will be supporting individuals with high and complex behavioural support needs to lead safe and meaningful lives in the community. No one is too disabled or "challenging" to be supported in taking an active role in their life.

The position will be based in the Taranaki Region. The position will be aligned to the relevant Area Office reporting to the relevant Service Manager. Your specific locations of work within the area would be as directed by your Service Manager.

What does the job involve?

As a Support Worker you will be supporting people to grow their independence and learn skills for daily living (e.g. using public transport, getting a job, manage money, cook a meal). Depending on where you are working, you'll be supporting people with their individual needs, supporting them with daily activities such as shopping, cleaning, showering and any medical appointments or medicine administering. Helping people with their interests and hobbies (e.g. going to the park or beach, participating in sport, doing art and crafts). Driving ABC vehicles to transport people to places in the community. Supporting people with behaviours that may challenge. Supporting them to plan and achieve their goals and make decisions and choices. Making sure they can be part of a family and have relationships. Helping them stay healthy and make positive choices about their lifestyle.

$23.15 - $28.25 per hour depending on relevant qualifications, with the ability to earn more as you gain qualifications. ABC Services will support you towards completion of the Level 2, 3 and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing qualifications. Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Previous experience working within the health and disability sector. Flexibility to work rostered shifts including days, evenings, sleepovers and weekends. A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours. Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Full NZ driver licence (or eligibility to gain this within 6 months).
